5 Tips for a Successful dbt Project

Jan 05, 2022

A fun part about dbt is how quickly you can get started.

But oftentimes moving fast results in subtle bad habits or, worse, compounding mistakes.

So today, I want to share with you 5 tips I've found that can help you build a successful dbt project:.

  1. Create a Staging Layer
  2. Use CTEs (Common Table Expressions)
  3. Use Directories
  4. Create a Style Guide
  5. Don't Optimize for Fewer Lines

These might seem overly-obvious, yet many teams miss some (or all) of these completely.

Rather than talk more about them in text, I think it's more helpful to discuss in video form.

I've put together a short video talking about each of these 5 tips and why you should care about them.

Enjoy.
