The Risks of Lazy Database Roles

Feb 04, 2026

There are definitely perks to being one of the only data people at a company.

One being that you pretty much have free reign over a lot of decisions.

Including decisions around database connections and permissions.

But this is both a gift and a curse.

Because what I often find is small teams take the quick and dirty route.

And by that I mean, "just use the Admin user" all across the pipeline.

But what I'm here to tell you is that that might not be the best strategy.

Even if you're a small (or 1-person) team.

Even if you don't need approval and it feels like the easiest thing to do in the moment.

So in this video I'll break down why you may want to pay a little closer attention to database roles.

And also share some benefits you'll get by  doing so.

Are you a small or 1-person data team?

I’ll work with you 1:1 to implement a simple, modern data architecture that fits your situation.

Over 8 weeks, we’ll audit your current setup, work through key architecture decisions, and leave you with a clear plan you can execute confidently, without costly mistakes or rework.
